Peter Lyons

Peter Lyons is an insurance law specialist who has over 40 years' experience in the insurance industry in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, the Middle East, the UK Lloyds market and the United States. Senior management responsibilities have involved underwriting, reinsurance, construction and analysis of complex policy wordings. Peter's roles include establishment and management of insurance claim departments including with a Bermudan based captive insurance company and as Director of Global Claims for a multinational insurance group.

Peter is familiar with most classes of insurance products, the insurers' claim process and the laws of insurance applicable in New Zealand, along with relevant consumer law and the Fair Insurance Code.

Complementing Peter's extensive practical experience in all aspects of insurance is his sound academic knowledge:

• University of Auckland: BA(Hons), LLB and Masters in Legal Studies with First-Class Honours, including completion of an LLM paper on the need for Insurance Law Reform in New Zealand.
• Insurance Institute of America: Associate in Risk Management 
• Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania: Post-Graduate Diploma in the Probability of Risk
• Houston Baptist University: Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter Course in Insurance Accounting and Finance
